  • 简介:AbstractThe oxygen reserve index (ORI) is a new technology that provides real-time, non-invasive, and continuous monitoring of patients' oxygenation status. This review aimed to discuss its clinical utility, prospect and limitations. A systematic literature search of PubMed, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect was performed with the keywords of "oxygen reserve index," "ORI," "oxygenation," "pulse oximetry," "monitoring," and "hyperoxia." Original articles, reviews, case reports, and other relevant articles were reviewed. All articles on ORI were selected. ORI can provide an early warning before saturation begins to decrease and expands the ability to monitor the human body’s oxygenation status noninvasively and continuously with the combination of pulse oximetry so as to avoid unnecessary hyperoxia or unanticipated hypoxia. Although the technology is so new that it is rarely known and has not been applied to routine practices in hospitals, it shows good prospects for critical care, oxygen therapy, and intraoperative monitoring.

  • 简介:Regionaldroughtanalysisprovidesusefulinformationforsustainablewaterresourcesmanagement.Inthispaper,astandardizedprecipitationindex(SPI)atmultipletimescaleswasusedtoinvestigatethespatialpatternsandtrendsofdroughtintheHanRiverBasin,oneofthelargesttributariesofYangtzeRiver,China.Itwasfoundthat,intermsofdroughtseverity,theupperbasinoftheHanRiveristheleast,whilethegrowingtrendisthemostconspicuous;alessconspicuousgrowingtrendcanbeobservedinthemiddlebasin;andthereisaninsignificantdecreasingtrendinthelowerbasin.Meanwhile,theimpactofdroughtontheMiddleRouteoftheSouth-to-NorthWaterTransferProjectwasinvestigated,anditissuggestedthatwaterintakemustbereducedintimesofdrought,particularlywhensuccessiveorsimultaneousdroughtsintheupperandmiddlebasinsoftheHanRiverBasinoccur.TheresultscanprovidesubstantialinformationforfuturewaterallocationschemesoftheSouth-to-NorthWaterTransferProject.

  • 简介:Thispaperprovidesanoverviewoftheideasandmethodsoftheassessmentofseismicintensitybasedonremotesensinganddescribesthemodelsusedtoassesstheremotesensingbasedsyntheticseismicdamageindexandseismicintensity.Withthedataofdamageinformationextractedfromthehigh-resolutionaerialimagesintheearthquake-strickenareas(Jiegutown,Yushucity,Qinghai)ofthe2010MS7.1Yushuearthquake,andthedataobtainedthroughpost-earthquakefieldinvestigation,theseismicdamagedegreeandseismicintensityhavebeenestimated.TheanalysisoftheresultsshowsthattheseismicintensityinYushucityisestimatedasIXthroughtheRSassessmentmethod,whichisconsistentwiththeresultestimatedaccordingtothegroundsurveys.TheresultsarediscussedinthelastpartofthepaperandindicatethattheRStechniquesareexpectedtobeoneofthemainmethodsusedtoestimatetheseismicintensityvaluesintheemergencystage.

  • 简介:AimtolinkingthevariabilityofdroughtinnorthwestChinatotheoceanicinfluenceofNorthAtlanticSSTsatthebackgroundofglobalwarmingandattheregionalclimatechangeshiftingstages,yeararidityindexvariationsinnorthwestChinaandsummerNorthAtlanticseasurfacetemperature(SST)variationsareexaminedforthe44aperiodof1961-2004usingsingularvaluedecomposition(SVD)analysis.ResultsshowthattheSSTanomalies(SSTA)intheNorthAtlanticinsummerreflectedthreebasicmodels.ThefirstSVDmodeofSSTpatternshowsadipole-likevariationwiththepositivecenterlocatedatsouthwestandnegativecenteratnortheastofextratropicalNorthAtlantic.AnditstronglyrelatestothepositivetrendinAIvariationinnorthwestChina.ThesecondcoupledmodesdisplaythecoherentpositiveanomaliesinextratropicalNorthAtlanticSSTandthemarkedoppositetrendofAIvariabilitybetweennorthandsouthofXinjiang.Inaddition,thelagcorrelationanalysisofthefirstmodeofSSTAandgeopotentialheightsat500hPavariationsalsoshowsthattheindicationoftheformerinfluencingthelatterconfiguration,whichresultinhigherairtemperatureandlessprecipitationwhentheSSTAintheNorthAtlanticOceaninsummermotivatedEurasiancirculationofEApattern,furthertoinfluencethewet-dryvariationsinnorthwestChinabytheocean-to-atmosphereforcing.

  • 简介:Integratedmulti-trophicaquaculture(IMTA)hasbeenproposedasaconceptthatcombinesthecultivationoffedaquaculturespecies(e.g.,finfish/shrimp)withextractiveaquaculturespecies(e.g.,shellfish/seaweed).Inseaweed-basedintegratedaquaculture,seaweedshavethecapacitytoreducetheenvironmentalimpactofnitrogen-richeffluentsoncoastalecosystems.Thus,selectionofoptimalspeciesforsuchaquacultureisofgreatimportance.Thepresentstudyaimedtodevelopaseaweedspecies-selectionindexforselectingsuitablespeciesinseaweed-basedintegratedaquaculturesystem.Theindexwassynthesizedusingavailableliterature-basedinformation,referencedata,andphysiologicalseaweedexperimentstoidentifyandprioritizethedesiredspecies.Undariapinnatifida,PorphyrayezoensisandUlvacompressascoredthehighestaccordingtoaseaweed-basedintegratedaquaculturesuitabilityindex(SASI).Seaweedspecieswiththehighestscoreswereadjudgedtofittheintegratedaquaculturesystems.Despitetheapplicationofthismodellimitedbylocalaquacultureenvironment,itisconsideredtobeausefultoolforselectingseaweedspeciesinIMTA.

  • 简介:High-frequencystocktrendpredictionusingmachinelearnershasraisedsubstantialinterestinliterature.Nevertheless,thereisnogoldstandardtoselecttheinputsforthelearners.Thispaperinvestigatestheapproachofadaptiveinputselection(AIS)forthetrendpredictionofhigh-frequencystockindexpriceandcomparesitwiththecommonlyuseddeterministicinputsetting(DIS)approach.TheDISapproachisimplementedthroughcomputationoftechnicalindicatorvaluesondeterministicperiodparameters.TheAISapproachselectsthemostsuitableindicatorsandtheirparametersforthetime-varyingdatasetusingfeatureselectionmethods.Twostate-of-the-artmachinelearners,supportvectormachine(SVM)andartificialneuralnetwork(ANN),areadoptedaslearningmodels.AccuracyandF-measureofSVMandANNmodelswithboththeapproachesarecomputedbasedonthehigh-frequencydataofCSI300index.TheresultssuggestthattheAISapproachusingt-statistics,informationgainandROCmethodscanachievebetterpredictionperformancethantheDISapproach.Also,theinvestmentperformanceevaluationshowsthattheAISapproachwiththesamethreefeatureselectionmethodsprovidessignificantlyhigherreturnsthantheDISapproach.

  • 简介:AbstractBackground:In-hospital mortality in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is high. Simple prognostic indices are needed to identify patients at high-risk of COVID-19 health outcomes. We aimed to determine the usefulness of the CONtrolling NUTritional status (CONUT) index as a potential prognostic indicator of mortality in COVID-19 patients upon hospital admission.Methods:Our study design is of a retrospective observational study in a large cohort of COVID-19 patients. In addition to descriptive statistics, a Kaplan-Meier mortality analysis and a Cox regression were performed, as well as receiver operating curve (ROC).Results:From February 5, 2020 to January 21, 2021, there was a total of 2969 admissions for COVID-19 at our hospital, corresponding to 2844 patients. Overall, baseline (within 4 days of admission) CONUT index could be scored for 1627 (57.2%) patients. Patients’ age was 67.3 ± 16.5 years and 44.9% were women. The CONUT severity distribution was: 194 (11.9%) normal (0-1); 769 (47.2%) light (2-4); 585 (35.9%) moderate (5-8); and 79 (4.9%) severe (9-12). Mortality of 30 days after admission was 3.1% in patients with normal risk CONUT, 9.0% light, 22.7% moderate, and 40.5% in those with severe CONUT (P < 0.05). An increased risk of death associated with a greater baseline CONUT stage was sustained in a multivariable Cox regression model (P < 0.05). An increasing baseline CONUT stage was associated with a longer duration of admission, a greater requirement for the use of non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation, and other clinical outcomes (all P < 0.05). The ROC of CONUT for mortality had an area under the curve (AUC) and 95% confidence interval of 0.711 (0.676-0746).Conclusion:The CONUT index upon admission is potentially a reliable and independent prognostic indicator of mortality and length of hospitalization in COVID-19 patients.

  • 简介:AbstractBackground:Dysfunction of cerebral autoregulation is one of the pathophysiological mechanisms that causes delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Pressure reactivity index (PRx) have been confirmed to reflect the level of cerebral autoregulation and used to derive optimal cerebral perfusion pressure (CPPopt). The goal of this study is to explore the associations between autoregulation, CPPopt, PRx, and DCI.Methods:Continuous intracranial pressure (ICP), arterial blood pressure (ABP), and cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) signals acquired from 61 aSAH patients were retrospectively analyzed. PRx was calculated and collected by Pneumatic computer system. The CPP at the lowest PRx was determined as the CPPopt. The duration of a hypoperfusion event (dHP) was defined as the cumulative time that the PRx was > 0.3 and the CPP was <CPPopt. The duration of CPP more than 10 mmHg below CPPopt (ΔCPPopt < -10 mmHg) was also used to assess hypoperfusion. The percent of the time of hypoperfusion by dHP and ΔCPPopt < -10 mmHg (%dHP and %ΔCPPopt) were compared between DCI group and control group, utilizing univariate and multivariable logistic regression. It was the clinical prognosis at 3 months after hemorrhage that was assessed with the modified Rankin Scale, and logistic regression and ROC analysis were used for predictive power for unfavorable outcomes (mRs 3-5).Results:Data from 52 patients were included in the final analysis of 61 patients. The mean %dHP in DCI was 29.23% and 10.66% in control. The mean %ΔCPPopt < -10 mmHg was 22.28%, and 5.90% in control. The %dHP (p < 0.001) and the %ΔCPPopt < -10mmHg (p < 0.001) was significantly longer in the DCI group. In multivariate logistic regression model, %ΔCPPopt <-10 mmHg (p < 0.001) and %dHP (p < 0.001) were independent risk factor for predicting DCI, and %ΔCPPopt <-10 mmHg (p = 0.010) and %dHP (p = 0.026) were independent risk factor for predicting unfavorable outcomes.Conclusions:The increase of duration of hypoperfusion events and duration of CPP below CPPopt over 10 mmHg, evaluated as time of lowered CPP, is highly indicative of DCI and unfavorable outcomes.
