Triple-negativebreastcancer(TNBC)isdiagnosedmorefrequentlyinyoungerandpremenopausalwomenandishighlyprevalentinAfricanAmericanwomen.TNBCisatermderivedfromtumorsthatarecharacterizedbytheabsenceofER,PgR,andHER2.SopatientswithTNBCdonotbenefitfromhormonalortrastuzumab-basedtherapies.TNBCsarebiologicallyaggressive,althoughsomereportssuggestthattheyrespondtochemotherapybetterthanothertypesofbreastcancer,prognosisremainspoor.Thisisdueto:shorteneddisease-freeintervalintheadjuvantandneoadjuvantsettingandamoreaggressivecourseinthemetastaticsetting.
