TheinterannualvariationsofatmosphericheatsourcesandmoisturesinksovertheEquatorialPacificandtheirrelationswiththeSSTanomaliesarestudiedusingECMWFreanalysisdatafrom1979to1993.Itisfoundbysingularvaluedecomposition(SVD)analysisthattheregioninthetropicalPacificwithhighpositivecorrelationbetweentheverticallyintegratedheatsourceanomalyandtheSSTanomaly,andbetweentheverticallyintegratedmoisturesinkanomalyandtheSSTanomaly,ismainlylocatedinalongandnarrowbelttotheeastof170(Ebetween5(Sand5(N.TheanalysisoftheverticalstructureofatmosphericheatsourcesandmoisturesinksshowsthattheinterannualvariationsofQ1,Q2andSSTintheequatorialcentralandeasternPacificarestronglyandpositivelycorrelatedinthewholetroposphereexceptthebottom(962.5hPa)andthetop(85hPa)layers.However,inthewesternPacific,theinterannualvariationsofQ1below850hPaisnegativelyrelatedtotheSST.Thecorrelationcoefficientatthelevel962.5hPareacheseven-0.59.InotherlayersthepositivecorrelationbetweentheinterannualvariationsofQ1,Q2andtheSSTareweakinthewesternPacific.
