Oligodeoxynucleotides(ODN)containingunmethylatedCpGdinucleotidesincontextsofuniquesequence(CpGmotifs)isactiveasadjuvantininductionofcellularandhumoralimmuneresponsesinyoungmice.Todate,thereareonlylimitedreportsabouteffectofCpGODNonimmuneresponsesagainsthepatitisB(HB)infectioninagedmice.Ourstudiesdemonstratedthereweresignificantincreasesinsecretingoftotalanti-HBIgG,IgG1andIgG2a,aswellasofIL-12andIFN-γ,whenCpGODNswereinjectedtogetherwithhepatitisBantigeninagedmice.Moreover,CpGODNcouldstimulateproliferationofspleenlymphocytesinadose-dependentmanner.Takentogether,theresultsweobtainedindicatethattheaddingofCpGODNintothevaccineantigenmightbeusefulindevelopmentofmoreeffectivevaccinationforinducinganti-HBvirusresponsesintheelderly.
