TheCarboniferousandPre-CarboniferousformationsinLudong,Zhungarbasin,containfavorableoil/gasreservoirs.TheCarboniferousformations,however,arecomplexinstructureandexhibitlateralvariationsinlithology.SeismicreflectionsfromPre-Triassicformationsarepoorandthevolcanicreservoirsareverydifficulttoidentify.Theanalysisofphysicalpropertiesconcludedthatthemajortargetsinthisregion,i.e.,thetopoftheJurassicandCarboniferousformations,providedistinctdensityinterfaces.Thebasic,intermediateandacidvolcanicrockswerealsodifferentindensity,resultingindistinguishablegravityanomalies.Thedifferencesinmagnetisminthisregionexistednotonlybetweenthevolcanicrocksandclasticsedimentaryrocksbutalsoamongvolcanicrockswithdifferentcompositions.Allformationsandvolcanicrocksofdifferentlithologiespresentedhighandlowresistanceinterbeds,whicharecharacterizedbyregionaltrends.Themodelingstudydemonstratedthatnon-seismicintegratedgeophysicaltechniquesshouldbefeasibleinthisregion,especiaUythehigh-precisiongravity/magneticmethodscombinedwithlongoffsettransientelectromagneticsounding.
