TheresponseoftheSouthChinaSea(SCS)toTyphoonChanchu(2006)wasexaminedusingtheMM5andPOMmodel.InthePOMmodel,seasurfaceboundaryconditionswereforcedbythesimulationwindfieldfromMM5,thevelocityforcingwasintroducedintheeasternboundaryandthecomputationalschemesofheatfluxesatthesurfacewereintroduced.Comparisonwiththeobservationdatashowsthatthesimulatedresultsarereliable.IntheresponseprocessoftheSCStoTyphoonChanchu,theinfluenceoftheheatfluxesonthermalstructureoftheSCSwasregionallydifferent.Strongwindforcingwouldleadtoupwellingphenomenoninthelateralboundaryofdeepwaterbasin.Furthermore,theEkmanpumpingtheorywasusedtodiscusssubsurfaceupwellinganddownwellingphenomenonintyphoonforcedstage.
