AwaterplasmawasgeneratedbyDCarcdischargewithahafniumembeddedrodtypecathodeandanozzle-typeanode.Thedischargecharacteristicswereexaminedbychangingtheoperationparameterofthearccurrent.Thedynamicbehaviorofthearcdischargeledtosignificantfluctuationsinthearcvoltageanditsfrequency.Analysesofthehighspeedimageandthearcvoltagewaveformshowedthatthearcdischargewasintherestrikemodeanditsfrequencyvariedwithinseveraltensofkilohertzaccordingtotheoperatingconditions.Thelargerthermalplasmavolumewasgeneratedbythehigherflowfromtheformingsteamwithahigherrestrikefrequencyinthehigherarccurrentconditions.Inaddition,thecharacteristicsofthewaterplasmajetwereinvestigatedbymeansofopticalemissionspectroscopytoidentifytheabundantradicalsrequiredinanefficientwastetreatmentprocess.
