Theassessmentofthewave-inducedsoilliquefactionplaysakeyroleinthegeotechnicaldesignforoffshorefoundations.Theunderlyingshortcomingsoftheexistingmomentaryliquefactioncriteriaareidentifiedandclarifiedbymechanismanalysesandtherecentfieldobservations.Amodifiedcriterionforthewave-inducedmomentaryliquefactionofasandyseabedisgiventodescribetheverticalporepressuredistributions.Animprovedapproximationofthemomentaryliquefactiondepthisfurtherpresented.Parametricstudyoftheeffectsofthesaturationdegreeofsoilsindicatesthatthismodificationissignificantfortheevaluationofwave-inducedmomentaryliquefaction.
