简介:Accurateestimatesofductilitydemandsonbuckling-restrainedbracedframes(BRBFs)arecrucialtoperformance-baseddesignofBRBFs.AnanalyticalstudyontheseismicbehaviorofBRBFshasbeenconductedattheATLSSCenter,LehighUniversitytoprepareforanupcomingexperimentalprogram.TheanalysisprogramDRAIN-2DXwasusedtomodelaone-bay,four-storyprototypeBRBFincludingmaterialandgeometricnonlinearities.Thebucklingrestrainedbrace(BRB)modelincorporatesbothisotropicandkinematichardening.NonlinearstaticpushoverandtimehistoryanalyseswereperformedontheprototypeBRBF.PerformanceobjectivesfortheBRBsweredefinedanduscdtoevaluatethctime-historyanalysisresults.ParticularemphasiswasplacedonglobalductilitydemandsandductilitydemandsoatheBRBs.Thesedemandswerecomparedwithanticipatedductilitycapacities.Theanalysisresults,alongwithresultsfromsimilarpreviousstudics,areusedtoevaluatetheBRBFdesignprovisionsthathavebeenrecommendedforcodificationintheUnitedStates.ThcresultsshowthatBRBmaximumductilitydemandscanbeashighas20to25.ThesedemandssignificantlyexceedthoseanticipatedbytheBRBFrecommendedprovisions.Resultsfromthestaticpushoverandtimehistoryanalysesareusedtodemonstratewhytheductilitydemandsexceedthoseanticipatedbytherecommendedprovisions.TheBRBqualificationtestingprotocolcontainedintheBRBFrecommendedprovisionsisshowntobeinadequatebecauseitrequiresonlyamaximumductilitydemandofatmost7.5.Modificationstothetestingprotocolarerecommended.
