简介:Anewtechnologyoflightninglocationisdescribed,whichisbasedondetectingthestateofpolarization(SOP)fluctuationofthelaserlightintheopticgroundwire(OPGW).Comparedwiththeconventionallightninglocationmethod,thenewmethodismoreaccurate,morestable,andcheaper.TheoriesofStokesparametersandPoincaresphereareintroducedtoanalyzetheSOPatthelightningstrikepoint.ItcanbeconcludedthatalthoughtheinitialpointsofSOPonthePoincarespherearerandom,theSOPfluctuationgeneratedbylightningstrikecanstillbeaccuratelyidentifiedbydetectingthevelocityofpolarizationmotion.Anewalgorithmtoquantifythevelocityisalsointroduced.
