Byusingagraded-indexmultimodefiber(GI-MMF)witharelativelyflatindexprofileandhighrefractiveindexofthefibercore,amicroextrinsicfiber-opticFabryProtinterferometric(MEFPI)strainsensorisfabricatedthroughchemicaletchingandfusionsplicing.Higherreflectanceofthemicrocavityisobtainedduetotheless-curvedinnerwallinthecenterofthefibercoreafteretchingandhigherindexcontrastbetweentheGI-MMFcoreandair.Themaximumreflectionofthesensorisenhanced12dBthanthatobtainedbyetchingoftheEr-orB-dopedfibers.Highfringecontrastof22dBisobtained.ThestrainandtemperatureresponsesoftheMEFPIsensorsareinvestigatedinthisexperiment.Goodlinearityandhighsensitivityareachieved,withwavelength-strainandwavelength-temperaturesensitivitiesof7.82pm/μεand5.01pm/°C,respectively.
