ChinaisrichinMiddleandCarboniferousfossilcorals.Thecoralfaunasindifferentregionshavevaryingcharacteristicsandcanbepidedintodistinctassemblages.ThecoralfaunainSouthChinaisdominatedbytheorderCaninidaandcontainsnumerousendemicelements;thatinNorthChinahasalotofMiddleCarboniferouscoralswhicharemonotonousinspecies,withLateCarboniferoussolitarycoralsbeingpredominant.ThecoralfaunainJunggarmainlycontainslargebi-zonedsolitarycaninids,whilethatinsouthernKhinganissimilartothatinSouthChinaduetothepresenceofabundanttri-zonedcompoundcorals.InnorthernTibetthecoralfaunaisalsosimilartothatinSouthChina,butinsouthernTibetitisofacold-watertype.Therefore,theMiddleandLateCarboniferouscoralgeographyofChinacanbepidedintotheTethys,BorealandGondwanaRealms.
