Thispaperproposesanewadaptivepost-filteringalgorithmtoremovecodingartifactsinblock-basedvideocoder.Theproposedmethodconcentratesonblockingandringingartifactsremoval.Forde-blocking,theblockingstrengthisidentifiedtodeterminethefilteringrange,andthemaximumquantizationparameteroftheimageisusedtoadaptthe1Dfuzzyfilter.Forde-ringing,besidestheedgedetection,acomplementaryringingdetectionmethodisproposedtolocatetheneglectedringingblocks,andthegradientthresholdisadoptedtoadjusttheparameterof2Dfuzzyfilter.ExperimentsareperformedontheMPEG-4sequences.Comparedwithothermethods,theproposedoneachievesbetterdetailpreservationandartifactsremovalperformancewithlowercomputationalcost.
