Restorationofmountainslopeforestsisoftenusedtoachieveoneoracombinationofthefollowingaims,includingincreasedproduction,soilprotectionandwildlifeconservation.Inthispaper,biopersity-orientedsilviculturewasproposedasadesignprincipleinforestrestorationfromwhichstripcuttingofshrubswasusedastherestoringtechnologyofforests.MorethanlO-year-observationsandexperimentalresultsoftheafforestationpracticesintheupperreachesofMinjiangRiver,Sichuan,China,indicatedthatthetechnologywasfeasibleandhadmanyadvantages.Strip-cuttingofshrubsamelioratedmicroclimateconditions,improvedsoilnutriemlevelforthegrowthoftargettreespeciesandincreasedthephysicalsurvivalofpinespecies.Structuralpersity,intermsofspecies,didnotincrease,butashrubspecieswasobservedtodifferentiatefromshrublayerandtendedtoformmixedforests.Preservebeltsofthetechnologyweresupposedtomeetpublicdemandsincludingbiopersityconservationandsoilprotection,andactasabasicstageinecologicallyprogressivesuccession.ThepromisinginitialresultsindicatethatstripcuttingofshrubsmaybeaneffectivepracticeforforestrestorationintheupperreachesofMinjiangRiver,Sichuan,China.
