ToevaluatethepossibilityofusingGd-Si-Gealloysinmagneticrefrigerators,samplesofGd-Si-GealloysweremadeofdomesticGd.Themagnetocaloriceffectofsampleswasestimatedbymagneticentropychange(-ΔSm)calculatedfromM-HcurvesaccordingtoMaxwellrelation.ThefirstorderphasetransformationwasdestroyedduetotheimpuritiesinthecommercialGd,sothatnogiantmagnetocaloriceffectwasfound.ThesamplesmadeofpurifiedGdexhibitfirstorderphasetransformation,andthe-ΔSmisbasicallyconsistentwiththepublisheddataofAmeslaboratory,USA.ThisworkprovesthatGd-Si-GealloysmadeofdomesticGdcanbeutilizedinmagneticrefrigerators.
