TwentyeightspeciesofforagecropswereplantedonacidsoilsderivedfromQuaternaryredclay(pH4.16)andredsandstone(pH4.55)tostudygenotypicdifferencesoftheforagecropsintolerancetoacidsoilsasaffectedbyliming,phosporusandpotassiumfertilizerapplication.Eightforagespecies,LoliumnultiflorumL.,Brachiariadecumbens,Digitariasumtisii,Melinisminutiflora,Paspalumdilatatum,Paspalumwettsteinii,SatariaviridisBeanvandShcep'sFestuca,werehighlytolerantoacidsoils,andgrewrelativelywellinthetestedsoilswithoutlimeapplication,whereasmostoftheother20testedforagespeciessuchasLoliumperenneL.,MeadowFestucaandTrifoliumpraenseL.wereintoleranttoacidsoil,showingretardedgrowthwhenthesoilpHwasbelow5.5andsignificantincreaseindrymatteryieldsbyphosphrusfertilizerapplicationatsoilpH6.0Resultsshowedthatlargedifferencesintolerancetoacidsoilsexistedamongtheforagespecies,andtoleranceofthefroagespeciestoacidsoilsmightbecloselyassociatedwiththeirtolerancetoAlandPefficiency.
