Fabricpatterncontainsmanytypesoftheavailablepatternelements,whichnotonlycanbeusedfortheresearchers,butalsoasthematerialforthedesigner.Butexistingmethodfocusonthecompleteimageretrieval,thereforelackmethodsofretrievingpatternelements.Thisarticleproposesapatternelementsretrievalalgorithmbasedoncosinetransform.Firstly,automaticallysegmentthepatternsaccordingtosizeandlocationandfilterthesimilarprimarypatterns,then,throughcosinetransform,analyzeelementsfeaturesinDCTdomain,extractamplitudefrequencyandphasefrequency.Weemploy2-normtomeasurethesimilarity,search10similarpatternelementsinthesamplelibraryandsavetheminthedesignresourceslibrary.Experimentresultsindicatethatthisalgorithmperformswellwhileusedinpalacecostumeandcarpetpatterns,andgotmorethan75%oftheaveragerecallin100timesexperiments
