Thispapercontributestoextractinginformationfromsignalsofbroadbandultrasonicattenuationspectrumforeffectiveutilizationinparticlesizecharacterization.Thesingleparticlescatteringmodelandthecoupled-phasemodelareformulatedsimultaneously,therelationshipbetweenparticlesizedistributionandultrasonicspectrumisestablished,andaconvergencecriterionforcalculationisquantified.Demonstrationinversionbytheoptimumregularizationfactormethodiscarriedouttoyieldtypicalnumericalresultsfordiscussion.Withtheexperimentalset-updevelopedbytheInstituteofParticleandTwo-PhaseFlowMeasurement(IPTFM)attheUniversityofShanghaiforScienceandTechnology,sandsedimentparticlesizeismeasuredbyattenuationspectrumandanalyzedusingtheaboveinversionalgorithmandtheoreticalmodels.Tovalidatetheproposedultrasonicspectrumparticlesizingmethod,resultsarecomparedwiththoseobtainedbymicroscopy.
