IdentificationofkeySSTzonesisessentialinpredictingtheweather/climatesystemsinEastAsia.WiththeSSTdatabytheU.K.MeteorologicalOfficeand40-yeargeopotentialheightandwindfieldsbyNCAR/NCEP,therelationshipbetweentheEastAsiansummermonsoonandnorthPacificSSTAisstudied,whichrevealstheirinteractionsareofinterdecadalvariation.Beforemid-1970's,thenorthPacificSSTAactsuponthesummermonsooninEastAsiathroughagreatcirclewavetrainandresultsinmorerainfallinthesummerofthenorthernpartofChina.After1976,theSSTAweakensthewavetrainandnolongerinfluencestheprecipitationinNorthChinaduetoloosenedlinkswiththeEastAsiansummermonsoon.ItcanbedrawnthatthekeySSTzoneshavingpotentialeffectsontheweather/climatesystemsinEastAsiadonotstayinoneparticularareaoftheoceanbutrathershiftelsewhereasgovernedbytheinterdecadalvariationsoftheair-seainteractions.Itishopedthatthestudywouldhelpshedlightonthepredictionofdrought/floodspansinChina.
