摘要
Thispaperexplores,explainsanddiscussesissuesaroundthedilemmabetweenlocalconservationofnaturalresources(often,endangeredspeciesandhabitats)andtourismneedsinAfrica.Oftenandinconstitutionalterms,localpeoplehavearighttoexploitanduseresourcesendowedintheirlocalarea.However,touristsoftenareinterestedinviewingthevegetationandanimalresourcesundisturbed.Inevitably,thereisanundeclaredanimosityofvaluesandinterestsbetweenlocalcommunitiesandtouristsandstateagencies.Asaresult,thedilemmaisthusofgovernance.ThepurposeofthispaperistodemonstratethegovernancedilemmaofresourceutilizationandtourisminAfricainabidtocreateaninformedstewardshipframeworkforsustainability.ThisisachievedbywayofcasestudiesandnarrativesfromAfrica.Assuch,thispaperwillbeareviewliteratureonhowdifferentcommunitiesperceivetourismandderivelivelihoodsfromtheirimmediateenvironment.Italsoexplainshowtheexternalfactorsinfluencelocalneedsandinterests.Amoresustainableandoperationalframeworkthatreducesfrictionamongstakeholdersissuggested.
