Theexploitablepotentialofhydropowerresourcesinthe1,800,000km~2Yangtzebasinis197GW,correspondingtoanannualelectricitygenerationof1030TWh,whiletheupperYangtzeupstreamofthecityYichangwithdrainageareaof1,000,000km~2possessesanexploitablepotentialofhydropowerresourcesof170GWor85%ofwhatisinthewholeYangtzebasin,asriverchannelsofthemainstemandtributariesinuppeYangtzepassthroughhighmountains,plateausandhills.
