简介:TheobjectiveofthisarticleistostudythegeotechnicalandenvironmentalcharacteristicsofsedimentsdredgedfromtwoTunisianharbors:RadesandGabes.Thefirstharborrepresentsthemainfacilityplaceinthenationaltransportchain.Thesecondoneisselectedasitssedimentspresentaseriousecologicalconstraintcausedbythedischargeofwastesintothemarineenvironment.Thesesedimentsareeitherdiscardedatseaorlandfilleddespitetheirharmfuleffectsontheenvironment.Thearticleisdividedintothreemainsections.ThefirstonepresentsthematerialthatwascarriedforRadesandGabesharbors.Theconservationconditionsandtheusedexperimentaltestsaredetailed.Geotechnicalcharacterizationincludesthedeterminationofthegrainsizedistribution,thewatercontent,theAtterberglimits,themethylenebluevalue,thespecificarea,thebulkdensity,thespecificunitweight,theorganicandcarbonatecontents.Environmentalcharacterizationisassessedbythedeterminationofmetalsconcentrationsinaleachingsolution.ThesecondsectiondealswiththedescriptionandanalysisofgeotechnicalpropertiesofRadesandGabesharbors’sediments.TheresultsobtainedshowthatRadesharborsedimentsareslightlysandyclayeysiltswhereasGabesharborsedimentsaresiltysandscharacterizedbyahighlyplasticclayfraction.Bothofthetwosedimentsdon’texhibitahighorganiccontent.Finally,chemical,mineralogicalandenvironmentalpropertiesarepresentedandthenanalysed.TheexperimentalresultsobtainedshowthatRadesandGabessedimentscouldbeusedasasandsubstituteintheformulationofanewconstructionmaterial.GabesharborsedimentsaremorepollutedthanRadesharborsediments.
简介:Forloadingandunloadingofboatsorshipsroundtheclock,theaccesschannelanditsexpandedpart-aportareexcavatedonthelagoonandoceanreefflatsinthetropicPacificoceanicislands.Withoutmoles,theaccesschannel-porttrapssedimentandfurthertransportsittotheoceanorlagoon,resultingincoastalerosion.Thewideunevenreefflatwithalargecatchmentareatendstocausetheformationoftidecurrentsinthechannel-port,whilestrongwavesonthenarrowevenreefflatcangiverisetoripcurrents.Anaccesschannel-portwithamoleononesideortwomolesonbothsidesresultsinlesserosion.Amodelisrecommendedasanartificialharborontheoceancoast,whichisanexcavatedportsurroundedbyamole,connectedwiththeoceanbyanaccesschannelandwiththeshorebyabridge-shapedpier.
