Variations of SST and Thermocline Depth in the Tropical Indian Ocean During Indian Ocean Dipole Events

摘要 InterannualvariationsinthesurfaceandsubsurfacetropicalIndianOceanwerestudiedusingHadISSTandSODAdata-sets.Windandheatfluxdatasetswereusedtodiscussthemechanismsforthesevariations.OurresultsindicatethatthesurfaceandsubsurfacevariationsofthetropicalIndianOceanduringIndianOceanDipole(IOD)eventsaresignificantlydifferent.AprominentcharacteristicoftheeasternpoleistheSSTAreboundafteracoolingprocess,whichdoesnottakeplaceatthesubsurfacelayer.Inthewesternpole,thesurfaceanomalieslastlongerthanthesubsurfaceanomalies.ThesubsurfaceanomaliesarestronglycorrelatedwithENSO,whiletherelationshipbetweenthesurfaceanomaliesandENSOismuchweaker.Andthesubsurfaceanomaliesofthetwopolesarenegativelycorrelatedwhiletheyarepositivelycorrelatedatthesurfacelayer.Thewindandsurfaceheatfluxanalysissuggeststhatthethermoclinedepthvariationsaremainlydeterminedbywindstressfields,whiletheheatfluxeffectisimportantonSST.
