DuringthegreatWenchuanearthquake,about460permanentfree-fieldstationsinNationalStrongMotionObservationNetworkSystem(NSMONS)ofChinacapturedthemainshockaccelerationrecords.Theserecordscanbeappliedtositeeffectanalyses,andthenthesiteclassificationofthosepermanentstationscanbecarriedoutfirstly,whichwillservedasthefundamentalinformationforfurtherresearch.Inthispaper,thesiteofnear-faultstationsisclassifiedbyhorizontal-to-verticalspectralratio(HVSR)methodaccordingtothesiteclassdescriptionofJapanearthquakeresistantdesigncodeandresponsespectralshapes(RSS)methodfollowingthesiteclassdescriptionofthe1997UniformBuildingCode(UBC)provisions.Thenbasedonthedetailedboreholedataofthosefree-fieldstations,theequivalentshearwavevelocityandoverburdenthicknessarecalculatedandthesiteclassificationsaregivenbyChinesecodeforseismicdesignofbuildings.Furthermore,forthestationshavingsuccessfulmicrotremortestdata,thesitedominantperiodsarecomputedtoverifytheresultsofsiteclassification.Finally,combinedwithalltheaboveresults,therecommendedsiteclassesofnear-faultpermanentfree-fieldstationsaregiven.
