Phylogeny of the Insect Homeobox Gene (Hox) Cluster

摘要 Thehomeobox(Hox)genesformanevolutionarilyconservedfamilyencodingtranscriptionfactorsthatplaymajorrolesinsegmentalidentityandorganspecificationacrossspecies.ThecanonicalgroupingofHoxgenespresentintheHOM-CclusterofDrosophilaorrelatedclustersinotherorganismsincludeseight"typical"genes,whicharelocalizedintheorderlabial(lab),proboscipedia(pb),Deformed(Dfd),Sexcombsreduced(Scr),Antennapedia(Antp),Ultrabithorax(Ubx),abdominalA(abdA),andAbdominalB(AbdB).ThemembersofHoxclusterareexpressedinadistinctanteriortoposteriororderintheembryo.AnalysisoftherelatednessofdifferentmembersoftheHoxgeneclustertoeachotherinfourevolutionarilydiverseinsecttaxarevealedthatthelocipb/DfdandAbdB,whicharefarthestapartinlinkage,hadahighdegreeofevolutionaryrelatedness,indicatingthatpb/DfdtypeanteriorgenesandAbdBareclosesttotheancestralanteriorandposteriorHoxgenes,respectively.ThegreaterrelatednessofotherposteriorgenesUbxandabdAtothemoreanteriorgenessuchasAntpandScrsuggestedthattheyarosebygeneduplicationsinthemoreanteriormembersratherthantheposteriorAbdB.
