AlkylatingagentsarechemicallyreactivedrugsthatreactwithDNAtoformcovalentbonds,causingsingle-strandordouble-strandDNAbreaksthatleadtointerstrandandintrastrandDNAcross-linking.Theseagentsareusedextensivelyincancerchemotherapy.Theyhaveasteepdose-responsecurveandarethereforeusefulindoseintensificationstrategies(e,g.inbonemarrowtransplantation).Thesubclassesofalkylatingagentsareasfollows.
