Remote structural health monitoring with serially multiplexed fiber optic acoustic emission sensors

摘要 Developmentandtestingofaseriallymultiplexedfiberopticsensorsystemisdescribed.Thesensordiffersfromconventionalfiberopticacousticsystems,asitiscapableofsensingAEemissionsatseveralpointsalongthelengthofasinglefiber.Multiplexingprovidesforsinglechanneldetectionofcracksandtheirlocationsinlargestructuralsystems.AnalgorithmwasdevelopedforsignalrecognitionandtaggingoftheAEwaveformsfordetectionofcracklocations.Laboratoryexperimentsonplainconcretebeamsandpost-tensionedFRPtendonswereperformedtoevaluatethecrackdetectioncapabilityofthesensorsystem.Theacousticemissionsensorwasabletodetectinitiation,growthandlocationofthecracksinconcreteaswellasintheFRPtendons.TheAEsystemispotentiallysuitableforapplicationsinvolvinghealthmonitoringofstructuresfollowinganearthquake.
