MgO-Al2O3-Cr2O3rammingmixesmadeofdifferentrawmaterialshavedifferentmineralstructureanddifferentphysicalpropertiesthoughwiththeidenticalparticlesizedistribution,thesameamountofbinderandchemicalcomposition.Theresidualcarboncontentofthefusedmagnesia-chromematerialmadeinreducingatmosphereisveryhigh,ifthismaterialsisusedintheMgO-Al2O3-Cr2O3rammingmix,itwouldcausespallingofthefurnaceliningduringdrying-out.
