摘要
Unpredictableairmovementshaveprovedtobeaprobleminpreviousstudiesinvestigatingrobotcommunicationbymeansofairbornepheromonechemicals.Theprojectdescribedinthispaperinvestigatestheuseofairvortexringsasameansofcarryingpheromonechemicalsbetweentransmittingandreceivingrobots.Sensitivitytochemicalsincludingpheromonesreleasedbyconspecificsisessentialformanyaspectsofaninsect’slife.Theyassistinfindingfood,locatingamate,avoidingdangerandhelpcoordinatetheactivitiesofsocialinsects.Inthefuture,autonomousrobotswillbechallengedbymanysituationssimilartothosethatfaceinsectsandothersimplecreatures.Chemicalcommunicationmayproveusefulfortheserobotsaswell.Thispaperdescribestheequipmentdevelopedforgeneratinganddetectingvortexrings.Resultsofexperimentsinvolvinglocationandtrackingofasequenceofpheromonevortexringsarealsopresented.
