Short-termuptakeexperimentsandlong-termsemicontinuouscultureexperimentswereperformedundertheconditionofphosphorus(P)limitationtoestimateandcomparethePuptakeandgrowthkineticsofthemicroalgaTetraselmissubcordiformisandthemacroalgaUlvapertusa.Twonewparameters,themaximumspecificuptakerate(Vspm)andthemaximalgrowthefficiency(β),areintroducedtoachieveuniformityforthecomparisonofnutrientuptakeandgrowthefficiencybetweenmicroalgaeandmacroalgae.T.subcordiformispossesses3timeslowerhalfsaturationuptakeconstant,4timeshighermaximalgrowthrateand20timeshighermaximumspecificuptakeratethanU.pertusa,whileU.pertusapossesses4timeshighermaximalgrowthefficiencythanT.subcordiformis.
