In1997,theTZ-162wellinTazhongareaoftheTarimbasinhitthelowerPaleozoicdolomitereservoiratadepthof5,900m.Thedistributionofthedolomitereservoir,however,wasverydifficulttodelineateduetothecomplexsurfaceconditionsandpoorseismicproperties.High-precisiontransientelectromagneticsounding(TEM)wasconductedandgoodresultsobtainedinthisarea.Thispaperdiscussedtheprinciple,dataprocessingandinterpretationofthismethod.Theresultsofstudyingthedolomitereservoirsdemonstratedtheeffectivenessofthemethodinstudyingthelow-resistancedolomitereservoirsinthehigh-resistancecarbonates.Thismethodshouldbeaneffectiveonetostudyreservoirsinareaswithsimilarphysicalpropertiesaswell.
