Usingofactivecardiacmedicaldevicesincreasessteadily.InEurope,therewere183implantsofICDand944implantsofPM,119ofbiventricularICDand41ofbiventricularPM,allpermillionin-habitantsin2014.Healthcareenvironments,includingradiotherapytreatmentrooms,areconsideredchallengingfortheseimplantabledevices.Exposuretoradiationmaycausethedevicetoexperienceprematureelectivereplacementindicator,decreasedpacingamplitudeorpacinginhibition,inappropri-ateshocksorinhibitionoftachyarrhythmiatherapyandlossofdevicefunction.
