摘要 Thispapergivesabriefoverviewoftheevolutionaryhistoryofhumandiet,discussesvariousreasonswhysomemodernhumanschoosetoabstainfromeatinganimalproducts,andexploresthepsychologicaleffectsoccasionedbytheeatingofmeat.Theauthorsarguethatwhenmodern,scientificallyliteratehumanschoosetoeatmeatandanimal-milk-basedproducts,whilebeingsimultaneouslyawareoftheassociatedpooroutcomesintermsofpersonalhealth,environmentalsustainability,andanimalsuffering,thenpsychologicalstressisaninevitableoutcome.Theyhighlightsomekeyrecentadditionstothegrowingbodyofevidencewhichdemonstratesthatthechoicetoeatmeatisafactorinenvironmentaldestruction,animalmisery,andpersonalhealthrisks,andexplorethecausesandconsequencesofthepredictablepsychologicalstressesthatresultforthoseindividualswhocontinuetohabituallveatmeat.
